Mangalore September 21, 2009: Konkani Cultural Organisation, Abu Dhabi and Samanvaya Mangalore had organized a joint training on Life Values and Life Skills cum Scholarship disbursal programme at Samanvaya Conference Hall on September 20, 2009.
The important part of the programme was the scholarship disbursal. The president of KCO Abu Dhabi Mr Leo Rodrigues presided over the function and distributed the scholarships to 85 students amounting to Rs 6 lakhs. Among the recipients of the scholarships 20 PUC, 3 ITI, 27 Degree, 1 B.Sc. Biotech, 4 Diploma in Engineering, 8 B.Sc. Nursing, 8 General Nursing, 12 BE, 1 B.Ed and 1 D.Ed students were present. Since 2004 total sums of Rs 21 lakhs have been distributed by KCO Abudhabi to students as scholarships through Samanvaya. Mr Rodrigues addressing the students said, “Accept the difficulties as challenges, have a clear aim in life, persevere relentlessly and consider sky is the only limit. Respect to the elders and a life of values makes a person cheerful in life”. He also said that Konkani Cultural Organization (K.C.O.), Abu Dhabi was founded in February 1995 with charitable, cultural and religious activities as its primary objectives. This organization grew multifold with its multifarious activities in bringing the Konkani Christian Community for group programmes in Abu Dhabi. The organization also became popular in supporting the economically backward and less fortunate members of the community in United Arab Emirates and back home in Mangalore. Mrs Laveena Rodrigues wife of Mr Leo Rodrigues, the treasurer Mr Frankline D’cunha, former president of KCO Mr Robert Rego and former treasurer Mr Gerald D’mello were the chief guests.
Another part of the programme was the training on Life Values and Life Skills. The resource person Rev. Dr Ronald Cutinha director of Samanvaya explained the need of possessing life values and life skills for a contended life through PowerPoint presentation. The value inspired role models like Mother Theresa, Mahatma Gandhiji, APJ Abdul Kalam were quoted heavily to drive home the lesson on life values.
In the beginning prayer song was sung by Linet D’souza and group. Fr. Ronald Cutinha welcomed and introduced the guests to the students. Teroline Machado proposed the vote of thanks and Joswin Wilson Saldanha compeered the program. A sumptuous dinner was served to all the 85 students and their parents who were present on the occasion.
