Karkala:The Senior Citizens’ Day was celebrated at Christ the King Church , Karkal on January 15, 2008. The sacrament of confession followed by the Holy Eucharist were spiritual aspects of the day.

The stage function and entertainments were organized in the parish hall by Catholic Sabha and ICYM units of the parish. The parish priest Rev. Fr. Lawrence Gomes inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp and addressed the gathering. He said, “Old age is a God given gift and blessing. Each human being desires to live long, but only a few get it. Rock solid faith, fund of knowledge and richness of experiences are the major contributions by the elderly people to the next generation”. The chief guest Rev. Dr. Ronald Cutinha asked the elderly to cultivate hobbies to pass their time at this geatric age, and to count their days by smiles and not tears, also  to count their age by friends and not years. 

The asst. parish priest Rev. Fr. Melwyn welcomed, Catholic Sabha president Matilda introduced the chief guest, ICYM president Jenifer proposed vote of thanks and  ICYM vice president Deepak D’Mello compered. All the 120 senior citizens who were given mementos and a sumptuous meal was sponsored by Mr Victor Grace D’Souza & family of Santhekatte. Those elderly who won the lucky games and competitions were given prizes.
