Mangalore: ‘Youth convention 2011’ was organized by the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of St Francis Xavier Church, Ferar on Sunday the 11th September  2011 at the Parish Hall.  Earlier there was Liturgy conducted by the youth in the morning during which Rev Dr Ronald Cutinha, Director of Samanvaya gave an impressive homily.

After a prayer by the youth, Rev. Dr Pius Fidelis Pinto, Parish Priest of Ferar along with all guests on the dais inaugurated the convention by lighting the lamp and wished the function a grand success.  He introduced Rev. Dr Ronald Cutinha to the audience and spoke briefly on various activities carried out by Samanvaya as its service to the society.  In their own interest and in the interest of their parish, he advised the youth to become role models for the parishioners and the society by gaining tips from the training to follow forthwith and imbibe maximum knowledge from the training to become responsible citizens of the locality.
 
Rev. Dr Ronald Cutinha took over the podium for training on ‘Motivation of the Youth’ and addressed the gathering on who is youth, the importance of youth power, present challenges for the youth, guidelines to the youth, etc. with power point presentation.  The programme being of their choice, young audience was absolutely attentive throughout the session.  They were encouraged to make opportunities and were made to realize that they are in a position to inspire young people to help their communities to take their destinies in their own hands in the direction of shaping a better future. He called on the youth to acquire required education, improve and make use of the inborn talents, become good leaders in the society by setting good example, take part in religious activities of their parish and most importantly, protect themselves from the destructive vices and help others involved in it to get out of it.  There was group discussion and question/answer session to ascertain that the audience disperses without any queries.
 
Parish Council Vice President Mr William D’Souza, Secretary Mr Lancy Cutinha and ICYM President Mr Ajit Albuquerque who welcomed the gathering, were on the dais. Mr Pradeep Saldanha proposed vote of thanks. Mr Nishith Lobo compered and Mrs Leena D’Souza conducted the evaluation of the programme. An encouraging number of 62 youth participated in the convention and expressed gratitude for the guidance at a time when they needed it the most.
