Mangalore: Mangalore Diocesan Chair in Christianity, Social Justice Forum, Mangalore  and the Catholic Priests’ Conference of India have organized a National Seminar on Sebastian Kappen & the Role of Religion and Culture in Social Transformation to be held on 23rd of November 20l0 at Jyoti Nivas Hall, Shanti Kiran, Mangalore 575 005.
Rev. Fr. Sebastian Kappen S.J., was a pioneer Christian thinker and a social activist who combined the spirituality of Jesus with Marxian thought. Thus he is an eminent example of dialogue of Christians with secular ideologies. He is a well known Theologist and has lived, reflected and struggled with working youth, university students, common people as well as intellectuals & professionals.
Prof.  Dr Michael Tharakan, Vice Chancellor of Kannur University will inaugurate the seminar and deliver the inaugural address. Dr Jacob Parappally of Bangalore will deliver the key address. Dr Joseph Lobo SJ of Bangalore will appraise the audience on the theological legacy of Fr Sebastian Kappen. Dr X.D. Selvaraj of Tuticorin will speak on the Role of Culture in Social Transformation, followed by lunch.  Afternoon session will begin at 2 p.m. with the speech by Dr M. K. George SJ on the Spirituality in the New Age of Colonization followed by the talk by Dr Dexter Maben on Decolonizing Theology: challenges & possibilities. After tea break at 3.45 p.m., there will be group discussions until 5 p.m. followed by the concluding session.
