Brahmavar: The Sthree Sangatan of Holy Family church, Brahmavar celebrated the decennial year on Sunday April 18, with a thanks giving Holy Mass. Brahmavar parish priest Rev. Fr. Denis Saldanha and Mangalore diocesan spiritual director of DCCW Rev. Dr. Ronald Cutinha concelebrated the Holy Mass, followed by a get-together held at Swarna auditorium of the Parish.
Rev. Fr. Denis Saldanha inaugurated the stage function by lighting the special natural lamp prepared by Mrs. Laila D’Mello, while Juliet sang Konkani song of late Wilfy Rebimbus. Fr. Saldanha emphasized his view that women should first and foremost strive to build strong and responsible families. Secondly, they should avail their excess time for the welfare of society especially to resurrect marginalized women. Leena Roche gave an innovative talk through ‘Vovyo,’ a traditional singing during ‘Roce’ in Mangalorean Christian weddings, which was lauded by all. She explained the aims and objectives of Women Association and emphasised the need to support the oppressed women.
Dr.Savitha Pereira, lecturer of St Aloysius College, Mangalore, Rev. Dr. Ronald Cutinha, Director of Samanvaya, and Veronica Cornelio, president of Udupi Congress women’s wing were the resource persons for the occasion. Fr Denis Saldanha, Leena Roche, president of Stree Sangatan of Mangalore diocese and Cynthia Dias President of Kallianpur Varado were present as guests.
Fr.Ronald Cutinha delivered a power point presentation on how to build a fruitful and a strong Sthree Sangatan and its importance to women. Referring to Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Theresa, he said, ‘we have to grab the opportunities in the present world to do something creative’. Dr Savitha Pereira spoke on Women’s Mission, referring verses from Holy Scriptures that empowered women to contribute for the betterment of society. She used participatory approach in her speech. Veronica Cornelio spoke on the importance of Stree Sangatan in improving the economic condition of their families.
Brahmavar Stree Sanghatan President Irene Lewis welcomed, Nancy Lewis proposed vote of thanks and Josphine Lewis compered. Secretary Meera Almieda read the report, and Mrs. Lilly Almeida introduced the guests. The prizes were distributed to the winners of various competitions held on the occasion. Around 150 women including the office bearers of Kallianpur Varado and parishioners were present. The members of Stree Sangatan staged variety entertainment programmes.
