MUKA-Nottingham Celebrates Easter 2010

Nottingham:The Mangalorean United Konkani Association, Nottingham celebrated the Easter festival with great elegance and religious fervor at the Bramcote Memorial Hall, Church Street, in Nottingham on the 4th of April 2010.

The Eucharistic celebration began with the holy mass in Konkani celebrated by Rev.Fr.Olvin Veigus SJ. Melodious Konkani hymns were sung by the MUKA choir members led by the vice- president of MUKA - Shalini Pinto.

After the Holy mass the President of MUKA Mr.Sunil D’cunha greeted and welcomed the gathering. He emphasized that the love and affection of the Konkani language and fellow Mangaloreans have brought everyone under one roof as a family despite of long distance they had to travel. The members of the KCA-UK from Manchester and the UK-Konkans from London were also present in large numbers. The annual report of the Association (MUKA) was briefed to the gathering by the secretary of MUKA Mrs.Dorothy Prakash  which summed up the success of the various events organized by the MUKA team members in the year 2009-10.

The  cultural programme commenced with the "EASTER THEME DANCE-TO THE KONKANI HYMN –JEZU JEEVANTH ZALA". The Indian classical dance -Bharathanatyam by Mrs. Dorothy Prakash and the live act of the risen Jesus from the tomb by Mr.Le Roy D’souza was well presented. Children around the Jesus’s tomb celebrating the resurrection of Jesus added further attraction to the theme.

Mr.Stany Mendonca,the composer and the singer from the KCA -UK team paid the tribute to the nightingale of Konkani music Late Shri Wilfy Rebimbus on behalf of Konkans living around U.K.

The young girls and the ladies demonstrated their talents in dancing by performing to the rhythm of the Bollywood  and the Hollywood music. MUKA's Melvia D’souza twirled the rhythm of "Bebo Mein Bebo"followed by "Nachle Ve" and "Dhoom Again" by Melrina Pereira and Shimona Pinto. Elaine Lewis twisted her feet to the tune of painted windows (Pussycat Dolls). Rihanna Buthello and Sonal Mendonca of KCA-UK performed  the dance to the popular Bollywood songs. The mother and the daughter duo from MUKA - Joyce and Jessica Aranha demonstrated their dancing skills to the popular tune of "Badi Mushkil " and "Chalia Chalia". The popular dancing duo of MUKA by Dorothy Prakash and Shalini Pinto performed to the super hit number "Dhoom Tana"  

The KONKANI skit –“MAKA VOTE DIYA”  was well staged by the youngsters from MUKA. Joshua Pinto and Christ Joy Rodrigues entertained the guests by demonstrating their hilarious talents wherein they were  instantly rewarded by the UKkonkan members.

The unique robot dance –“POP - DA -ROBOT” by the young men of MUKA, Mowin Lewis and  and Le Roy D’souza was also well appreciated by the guests. Melodious songs were sung in Konkani, Kannada and in Hindi which gave variety to the cultural programme by entertaining the young and the elderly.  Sunil D'cunha sang the golden oldie Hindi song "An evening in Nottingham(Paris) winning a huge round of applauds from the guests. Julian Noronha sang the Kannada song "banigondu elle ellide".  Popular singing duo of KCA-UK  Stany Mendonca and Ancilla Gomes sang famous the konkani songs which further entertained the whole crowd.

Apart from the cultural programmes the gathering was enriched with cakes and soft drinks followed by mouth savoring dinner in the  afternoon. The highly praised Mangalorean style food was cooked and prepared by the families, namely Wilfy Rodrigues,Harry D'souza,Walter Rodrigues, Dorothy Prakash,Roopa D'souza, Joy Pinto, Sunil D'cunha and Julian Noronha.

The housie-housie game was conducted for the guests by Julian and Joy. Prizes were distributed to the winners. This was followed by the "BAILA BLAST" bringing the guests to the dance floor. Manglorean traditional brass band added a special attraction.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Shalini Pinto who thanked every one for making the event successful. About 130 people were present. The entire event was brilliantly compeered by Mrs. Sunitha Rodrigues. Mr. Walter Rodrigues's (waltsdecor) back drop and stage setting in two sets was the star of attraction in the entire event. Mr.Conrad Aranha maintained the sound system throughout the event.

The function concluded with every one singing "Laudathe Dominum". The broad smile on every one's face indicated the mega success of the programme which was organized under the efficient and effective leadership of Sunil D'cunha .
