Kallianpur August 4th 2009: “Konkani does not represent any caste or religion but people who speak Konkani. There are 42 Konkani communities in Karnataka. We have to speak in Konkani” said Mr.Kundapur Narayan Kharvi, the president of Karnataka Konkani Academy on August 2nd 2009 at the Silver Jubilee Hall Milagres College Kallianpur.
He also conveyed that the Konkani is taught in schools both in primary and high schools as a third language. Parents and Konkani Schools should take initiative and come forward to teach Konkani. He was inaugurating one day work shop on Konkani Short Stories. The workshop was inaugurated by V Rev Fr Marcel Saldanha, the correspondent of Milagres Educational institutions. Sunil Fernandes Kota, the editor of Karavalmilan.com and Mr Kahteeb Abdul Rashid Navayti Muslim were the guests of honour. Mr Louis Almeida, the secretary of Konkani sangatan Udupi district welcomed the guests and Dr Gerald Pinto the president of sangatan introduced the president and the guests.
Dr.Gerald Pinto spoke on the greatness of Konkani language and taught the participants how to write articles. Mr Dolphy Cassia trained the participants how to write a good short story.
Prof. Hilda Rodrigues the incharge principal of the College presided over valedictory functions. Asok shenoy and Richel D Costa evaluated the workshop. Walter Pinto proposed the vote of thanks. Ashok Shenoy compered the programme. 60 College and Highschool students belonging to GSB, Kharvi, RSB, catholics and Navayti Muslims attended the workshop.
Workshop was organized by Karnataka Konkani Academy, Karaval Milan Dubai and Konkani Sangatan Udupi District organized the workshop.
