Pakshikere 26th October 2008: It was indeed an event of great joy when six couples exchanged the marriage vows as well as wedding rings in Pakshikere parish on the occasion of community wedding that was celebrated on 21 October 2008. For the past five years, St Jude shrine/parish organizes community wedding and helps the poor and needy couple, who wish to receive the sacrament of matrimony without any extravagant expenditure. The generosity shown by the devotees of St Jude and also other well wishers makes these mass weddings possible. The parish provides each couple with a ‘kariya mani’, ‘Sado’, a pair of dressing material for the bride groom and non-vegetarian meal for the relatives of the couple regardless of their number.
This year the six couples marched to the sound of band towards the altar to receive the seventh sacrament. Very Rev. Fr Stany Goveas presided over the celebration and preached a befitting homily on the theme ‘Christ through his powerful words sustains our families.’ Preaching on the Word of God he said that firm faith in God and genuine love for each other ensures success in marriage. He instructed them to repeat two sentences, ‘I Believe in God’ and ‘I Love You’ not just from their mouths but from their hearts.
Rev. Fr Alban D’Souza, briefed about the activities in the shrine and thanked all the well-wishers, donors and devotees of St Jude for giving helping hands in all the projects of the shrine.
After the homily priests present blessed the nuptials of individual couples and prayed over them the God’s blessings. After the Eucharistic celebration the couples were felicitated in the Church hall. Fr Francis s.v.d. raised the toast and gave them a few guide lines for a happy marriage life. Babitha, newly wedded bride, proposed the words of gratitude and thanked all the people who toiled to make the event a successful one.Fr Alban D’Souza felicitated the persons who sponsored each couple. A non-vegetarian meal prepared by our hindu brothers was served to all the people gathered on the occasion.
